BIOGRAPHY/CONTACT
Tramaine de Senna is a contemporary artist whose artworks bear witness to her intense relation with materials in a contest between subjects and their plastic forms. She has developed an iconography of vivacity with a practice that spans multiple fields, primarily sculpture, while utilizing synthetic and natural materials—including ceramics, wood, textiles, plastics, and bronze. Her practice is rooted in the principle of λόγος/Logos — the pursuit of reason and creative order — through which she wrestles with chaos and possibility manifesting as the journey of forms, everyday imagery, built-environment logic, and narrative-rich formal expression.
Born in San Francisco, de Senna lives and works between Belgium and California. She earned simultaneous Bachelor’s degrees in Architecture and Art from the University of California, Berkeley, graduated with an MFA from the Sint Joost Academie voor Kunst en Vormgeving (NL), and has completed several residencies including the HISK - Hoger Instituut Voor Schone Kunsten Vlaanderen.
Tramaine is exhibiting currently at the Stedelijk Museum Breda (NL), and has exhibited nationally and internationally such as at de Brakke Grond in Amsterdam (NL), the 10th Annual Antwerp Art Weekend, a solo booth at Art Antwerp (BE), Fred & Ferry Gallery, the Middelheim Museum/Munthof (Antwerp, BE), the Flemish Parliament (Brussels, BE), M HKA - Museum van Hedendaagse Kunst Antwerpen, Kunstinstituut Melly fka Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art (Rotterdam, NL), the Permeke Museum/Mu.ZEE (Jabeke/Ostend, BE), the Torrance Art Museum (California, US), the Moscow Biennale (Russia), and the Sonoma County Museum (Santa Rosa, California) among others.
Her works are held in major public and private collections, including the Flemish Parliament, Middelheim Museum/Kunst in de Stad, M HKA, and Mu.ZEE, as well as in private collections across Europe and the US.

"For her solo exhibition at M HKA, titled MASTERBLASTER (January 18 – August 23, 2020), Californian Tramaine de Senna presents new work alongside a selection of key pieces and existing sculptures. Anyone who has already seen her explosive exhibition will be convinced that her work is powerful, colorful, and intriguing.
What lies behind her formal language? Why those bold colors, and what story might have preceded this inspiring, shimmering tapestry? In this case, we confidently say: excess is good for you. Layer by layer, we unravel both the work and its creator in the interview above. de Senna doesn't disappoint when she effortlessly connects violence with Godzilla, the Wild West with Bobbejaan Schoepen, migration history with artistry."
